NOTRE DAME 42, BAYLOR 30: The Lady Irish improved to 11-4 with the 12-point win, but it certainly wasn't their best game as Baylor controlled the pace and forced Notre Dame to play a much slower game than they would have liked.
Notre Dame coach Jason Hill was just glad his team could still win, despite having less-than-optimal performance.
"We knew that Baylor would do their best to slow us down as we want to run up and down the court, but we found a way to win when we didn't play our best and there are games like this," Hill began after it ended.
"Violet Wright is still not 100 percent, but we just want to make sure she's ready when post-season begins, so we're taking our time with her. Violet stepped up late, but Sam Brown did a good job of stepping up as well.
"We have a hungry team. We play together and feed off each other, so it was nice to have different girls stepping up today. We have a scrappy bunch who will only continue to get better and we're looking forward to playing in the championship game on Saturday," Hill nodded.
Baylor coach John Gibson was really happy with the performance of his team, despite not winning.
"I thought we did a great job executing our game plan as we wanted to make it an ugly game where we slowed it down as much as possible," he began.
"Notre Dame is more experienced than us right now, but any time they execute the game plan like it's drawn, you have to be happy," he added.
Wright scored all six points for Notre Dame in the first quarte as the Irish had a 6-4 lead at the first break.
A 3 from Paige Thompson gave Baylor its first lead at 14-13 with just over two minutes remaining before the half before Notre Dame scored the last three points for a 16-14 advantage at intermission.
The slow pace continued in the third quarter where Notre Dame had a 21-20 lead with one stanza remaining. The Lady Irish were then able to double their score in the final eight minutes as they slowly pulled away.
Wright had 15 points and MiMi Lee 10 to lead Notre Dame while Amiya Leach scored seven points to lead the Lady Red Raiders. Kadie McDonald and Thompson were next with six each while Rory Oleksik and Xahara Willis both added five.
Baylor had an unofficial 28-25 edge in rebounds as Willis grabbed eight and McDonald six. Callie McCormick, Wright and Brown all had five for Notre Dame.
