Update from Knoxville

Baylor Wins District Opener At Knox Catholic, 58-42

Baylor's post players were too tall (6'7" and 6'9") and guard Nyziah Whaley was too quick for Knox Catholic in the Red Raiders' District opener on Tuesday night. After a sluggish start by both teams, the Red Raiders heated up and won 58-42 in Knoxville.

Junior Zane Restelli finally got someone on the board with a three pointer and Whaley followed with his own long shot. Couple with two points by Kevinas Sacas, it was an 8-8 first quarter.

The Baylor lead was only three at 22-19 at intermission.

Leading scorers were Nyziah Whaley with 27, Zane Restelli 14, Jack Shutters 9, and Kevin Sacas 8 points.

Baylor began to pull away in the third quarter, with Whaley pushing the lead to 26-19 after a hustle play on an overthrown Fighting Irish pass.

Sacas put it in on a fast break and two Baylor free throws pushed the score to double digits at 30-19. Cade Murphy landed a three pointer for Knox Catholic, but the quick Whaley hit two driving layups on the left side of the basket to keep the comfortable margin.

In the closing minutes, it was the Lee University bound Whaley hitting from the top of the key and on another sprint to the basket.

It was the second home district loss for Knox Catholic, which fell earlier to McCallie.

Baylor improves to 12-3 with all the losses coming in tournaments.

There's a big matchup coming up on Friday night as the Red Raiders head for the McCallie campus. Knox Catholic will be in town to visit Chattanooga Christian next Tuesday.

Game 1: Lady Irish with a 15-4 record after tonights win over Baylor.  Next up for the ladies is GPS Thursday night at 6:15 following the two middle school games at 4:00 & 5:00 in Duke.
