CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Red Raider men's and women's swimming and diving team opened the 2024-25 varsity season with a victory over Concord Christian School (CCS) on Saturday (Oct. 26) at the Baylor School Natatorium. The men's team were also victorious against Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) in the same meet.
The Red Raider men's team scored 145-35 against MBA and 146-29 against CCS, securing a win in all events. Both MBA and CCS had top 10 finishes last season at the 2024 Tennessee state championship meet – MBA finishing 3rd with only 9 points behind the Red Raiders.
The Red Raider women's team also had a dominating performance out scoring CCS, 143-25, securing a win in every event except the 100 free, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
COACH'S QUOTE
Coach Brooks, who is starting his second full season with Baylor swimming and diving as its head coach, shared:
"This weekends meet was the best overall in-season team performance we've had both individually and as a team. The energy and support the athletes displayed for one another on the pool deck was unprecedented and these changes will continue to be the differing factor for our success in and out of the water. Coming into the meet, we talked a lot about setting the tone and the standard for this season. They did a great job of showing what they're capable of and we've set the bar high. Looking forward to what's ahead this season for the Red Raiders."
Coach Samson, who is starting his first season as Baylor's head diving coach, shared:
"Oct. 26th was my first competition as a coach at Baylor, and I could not be happier to start on a win. As a team, we competed a lot of new dives and for many of our divers, this was their first meet experience ever. I thought our team handled the first meet nerves well and executed each round with confidence. Baylor diving is in the midst of a beautiful resurgence and energy levels are high. We have big goals for this season and our performance at this home-opener proved we are on the right track. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store."
UP NEXT
The Red Raiders will yet again compete at home, this time facing Cardinal Gibbons and Providence Day on Friday, Nov. 22. This meet will be in Short Course Meters (SCM) format, with events being contested in a 25m pool instead of the traditional 25-yard pool.
