Two From Baylor to be Inducted into Local Sports Hall of Fame

Hall of Famer: Eric Westmoreland

Former faculty member and coach Doug Moser, who passed away in 2019, and coach Eric Westmoreland will be inducted into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, March 11.

Moser was hired as Baylor's first girls' basketball and softball coach in 1985 and also taught math until his retirement in 2011.  He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his softball record. During his coaching tenure, Baylor won two class AAA state softball championships (1993, 1994). In basketball, Baylor finished second in the state in Division IIAA in 2001, as well as winning several district 6AAA championships and the 1997 region 3AAA tournament title. He was the 1983 (for basketball) and 1994 (softball) recipient of the Scrappy Moore Award, which goes to the area's outstanding high school coach in all sports.  Moser received several district Coach of the Year awards in both sports he coached. 


Westmoreland joined Baylor in 2006 following a career in the NFL, first as a linebacker for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2001-2004) and later with the Cleveland Browns. He played at Marion County High School, leading the Warriors to three state championships as a running back/safety. He rushed for 2,359 yards and 40 TD's as a senior and finished with more than 6,000 yards and 85 TDs in his high school career. He played college football at the University of Tennessee where he was a starting linebacker and helped the Vols win the 1998 National Championship.
