The Baylor Middle School softball team capped off a perfect season in dominant fashion, defeating CCS 8-0 to win the ISC Championship and secure back-to-back titles. The Raiders finished the season undefeated at 14-0, outscoring opponents by a staggering 153-13.
The championship game highlighted the leadership of Baylor's outstanding 8th grade class, who set the tone and delivered big moments once again.
After a scoreless start, Baylor broke through in the bottom of the 4th inning. Molly Guthrie doubled to left, and pinch runner Liv Thompson came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Chuck Thurman, after advancing on a single from Laila Jefferson.
The Raiders then exploded in the 5th inning, plating six runs to put the game out of reach. Ceriah Thomas reached on an error, followed by a double from Spencer Higgins. Thomas scored on a sac fly by Callia Patterson before Harper Reeves ripped a single up the middle to drive in another. Thurman collected her second RBI of the night with a hit to left, Syd Tym added an RBI single, and Ellie Jimerson delivered the big blow with a two-run hit.
In the 6th, Higgins and Reeves both singled before Jefferson launched a double to the gap, sealing the 8-0 run-rule victory and the championship.
Patterson was dominant in the circle, going the distance with 8 strikeouts while allowing just two hits. The defense was equally sharp, with Baylor turning a key double play in the 4th when
Higgins gunned down a runner attempting to steal second, and Patterson struck out the batter on the same pitch.
Guthrie, Higgins, Reeves, and Patterson were all named to the ISC All-Conference team.
