It was a classic pitcher's duel on Wednesday afternoon as Baylor edged South Pittsburg 2-1 in eight innings, thanks to a clutch walk-off single from Amiya Leach.
South Pittsburg's ace Kilgore, who reached a milestone 700 career strikeouts during the game, went toe-to-toe with Baylor's Adison Wallington. Wallington was dominant in the circle, allowing just two hits and five total base runners while racking up 13 strikeouts.
Baylor opened the scoring in the third inning when Xahara Willis delivered a two-out RBI single. South Pittsburg tied it up late to force extras, but Baylor didn't blink.
In the bottom of the 8th, Willis drew a leadoff walk to spark the rally. That set the stage for Leach, who lined a game-winning single up the middle to bring Willis home and seal the dramatic win.
Brenley Gentry added a double, and Chloe Cunningham notched a single as the Red Raiders picked up the gritty victory.
