Arya Kallambella of Baylor School clinched the 2025 TSSAA Division II Class AA Boys' Tennis Singles State Championship with a straight-sets victory over Michael Wang of McCallie, winning 6-4, 7-5 in the final held at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
This triumph marks the culmination of a dominant tournament run for Kallambella, who previously defeated Ethan Caldwell of MBA 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals.
As a senior, Kallambella's victory not only secures a state title but also cements his legacy as one of Tennessee's top high school tennis players. He is currently ranked the #1 senior in Tennessee and #82 nationally.
Kallambella — a native of Bangalore, India, he will play next season at Denison University, a NCAA Division III program in Granville, Ohio — was at the top of the lineup when the Red Raiders won their first state team title since 2016, and his teammates included his brother Anurag, who came to Baylor this season as a freshman.
"I didn't feel I was the best player today, but I was strong mentally and just did what I could do with the game I had today," Arya said after his win against Wang. "He was a great player, too, and he played some of the best tennis he's played. I was just strong in the mind and did my stuff right.
"I came here, I didn't know much about high school tennis. We just played tennis back at home, came here and there's a lot of energy at matches. I'd just like to thank my coaches and my teammates; they helped a lot."
