The last time Baylor faced Knoxville Catholic on January 13, it turned into a shootout. Tuesday night in Duke Arena followed that same script.
Once again, it came down to the final seconds. And once again, Baylor came up just short, falling 67–66.
Down nearly 12 points with just 1:30 remaining, the Red Raiders refused to quit. Baylor buried back-to-back three-pointers, forced a steal, and finished with a layup to ignite a furious rally.
With 2.4 seconds left, Baylor trailed by four. A steal at half court led to a desperation heave at the buzzer. The shot fell, sending the crowd into a frenzy, but time expired with Baylor one point shy of a remarkable comeback.
Baylor poured in 28 points in the fourth quarter, but the late surge was not quite enough to overcome the deficit.
Mantas Paldauskas led the way with 16 points, followed by Jake Neal with 17 and Taheim Elohem with 14.
Next up, Baylor returns home for Senior Night on Thursday against CCS.
Senior Night festivities will take place immediately following the girls game at 5:00. We hope you can join us as we honor our seniors.
