Baylor School Announces Lucas Cotter as Head Track & Field Coach

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Baylor School is excited to announce that Lucas Cotter has been appointed as the school's new Head Track & Field Coach, succeeding coach Jeff Gaither, who is stepping down from coaching while continuing to serve Baylor as an English teacher.

Coach Gaither has been an important part of Baylor athletics and education, and the school is grateful for his years of leadership and dedication to the track and field program. While Jeff transitions away from coaching responsibilities, he will remain a valued member of the Baylor community in the classroom.

Lucas Cotter brings an outstanding competitive background and proven coaching experience to his new role. He has served as Baylor's boys cross country coach since 2023 helping develop student-athletes both on and off the course.
A standout runner at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Cotter earned four All-Southern Conference honors in cross country and was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection in track and field. During his collegiate career, he also captured two Southern Conference championships and set the UTC school record in the 3,000-meter run, a mark that still stands today.

Following his collegiate career, Cotter continued his success as a distance runner, winning the 2024 Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon, further demonstrating the dedication and excellence that have defined his athletic journey.

Cotter's leadership, competitive experience, and commitment to developing young athletes position him well to continue Baylor's tradition of excellence in track and field.

Please join us in congratulating Coach Lucas Cotter on his new role as Head Track & Field Coach at Baylor School.
