Baylor traveled up the mountain Tuesday night to take on Signal Mountain in the season opener. After more than an hour weather delay, both teams made the move to the Eagles' brand-new turf field — a huge thanks to Signal Mountain for all their hard work to make sure the game could be played.
The Red Raiders wasted little time once the match kicked off:
- 12' — Ayanna Hamler (Baylor) scored off an Elizabeth Silva assist.
- 14' — Ryleigh Ramey (Baylor) finished inside the box.
- 15' — Signal Mountain converted a penalty kick.
- 29' — Ryleigh Ramey netted her second, assisted by Paige Thompson.
- 42' — Hadley Griffith capped the scoring off a Brylee Faulkner assist
Final: Baylor 4, Signal Mountain 1
Coach Blair after the win: "Anytime you can get a win against a team coached by Coach Northcutt and Coach Daverson is a good day for us. Signal Mtn did a lot of work during the weather delay to move from grass field to their brand-new turf to give us a chance to play. Signal is a young and athletic team that tries to play the game the right way. I thought it was a good start to the season, but our speed of play must improve over the season. I was proud of how our players dealt with all the weather delays and found a way to win on the road."
Next Up: Baylor hosts Hardin Valley in the home opener on Thursday at 6:00.
