Norman Wins National Title

Baylor senior Titus Norman became just the second Red Raiders wrestler since 2015 to win a title at the prestigious National Prep Wrestling Championships.

Norman won the 165-pound weight class last weekend at the 92nd edition of the oldest-running high school wrestling tournament in the country, which was held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In doing so, he became the first National Prep champ for Baylor since Khamari Wimper, who was a member of the class of 2017.

FloWrestling's Instagram account, which has more than 1 million followers, featured highlight of Norman's 7-2 victory over Nate Consigli of Massachusetts in the tourney finals. With just more than a minute remaining, Norman scrambled for a two-point reversal to take a 3-2 lead, then sealed the title late by flipping his opponent over and collecting near-fall points.

Norman was a 1-0 semifinal winner against New Jersey's Barry Norman with a third-period escape, and he also collected two pins and a tech fall to win his bracket, which included six wrestlers with top-20 national rankings.

"This national title is a testament to all the hard work that I have put in along with my coaches and my partners over the years," said Norman, who is set to continue his wrestling career in college at Army. "It wouldn't have been possible without the constant support from my coaches and all of my practice partners who push me in the room every day.

"I am very blessed to be surrounded by such amazing coaches in Coach (Andrew) Berreyesa and Coach (Joe) Bakewell, and especially Coach Sean (Russell). This accomplishment is just the first of the many big achievements Sean Russell will bring to Baylor. I have no doubt that in the years to come he will produce many more national champions."

Norman's dominance highlighted a stellar team performance as Baylor tied its program record with seven wrestlers earning National Prep All-America status as top-eight finishers in their respective weight classes: senior Gabe Swann (120, second), junior Malachi Puckett (138, fourth), senior George Emendorfer (144, sixth), freshman Riley Alcantar (113, sixth), sophomore Rock Shurette (215, seventh) and senior Dylan Reel (190, eighth) joined Norman.

The Red Raiders finished with 159.5 points and were sixth out of 124 teams represented at the tournament.
