DGG rushes for 315 as Baylor roars past Trinity for 4-0 start

The Baylor Red Raiders are 4-0 this football season, and they're 2-0 so far in national top-25 showdowns.

Senior running back David Gabriel Georges rushed 26 times for 315 yards and five touchdowns Friday night as Baylor defeated Kentucky's Trinity High School 35-27 in Louisville. The five-star prospect and University of Tennessee commitment had touchdown runs of 10, 15, 75, 59 and 14 yards.

His 75-yarder at the 7:13 mark of the third quarter put Baylor ahead to stay at 20-14, and his 14-yarder with 7:06 left in the game capped a 28-0 run that provided the Red Raiders their largest lead at 35-14.

"We were close on some runs in the first half and had to be patient," Baylor coach Erik Kimrey said after the reigning TSSAA Division II-AAA state champions' 16th consecutive win dating to last season."When David is in his element, he is tough to stop. He showed why he's the best player in the country tonight."

The Red Raiders entered Friday ranked No. 11 nationally, according to MaxPreps, while Trinity was No. 23. Baylor opened its season on Aug. 20 with a 38-20 downing of visiting Brentwood Academy on ESPN2, with the Red Raiders ranked No. 12 in that matchup and the Eagles No. 14.

Friday's performance was a season high for Gabriel Georges, who now has 77 carries for 762 yards (9.9 yards per rush) and 12 touchdowns. It ranks second on his career chart, behind only the 435-yard outburst in last November's 56-35 state semifinal win over rival McCallie at Baylor's Heywood Stadium.

Gabriel Georges would open the scoring midway through the first quarter with his 10-yard run, but those would be Baylor's only points of the first 24 minutes.

"Our guys don't panic," Kimrey said. "We were calm at halftime and just tried to make some adjustments. I told everybody that good things were coming our way. This team is super mentally tough, and we were going to have to be mentally tough to play in this kind of environment.

"This was a great environment, and Trinity is a class program, but our guys did a great job of just hanging in there."

Baylor quarterback Keegan Croucher, an Ole Miss commitment, was 9-of-14 passing for 148 yards. Tight end Braxton Rein had two receptions for 51 yards, while receiver Antwaun "Cornbread" Adams added two catches for 41 yards.

The Red Raiders open DII-AAA East Region play next Friday by hosting Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy.
