LOUISVILLE, Ky. David Gabriel Georges turned in a performance to remember Friday night, rushing for 315 yards and five touchdowns as Baylor rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Trinity 35-27 at Marshall Stadium.
The matchup featured two nationally ranked and unbeaten programs, with MaxPreps ranking Baylor No. 11 nationally and Trinity No. 23 entering the night.
Baylor struck first when Georges capped an early drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to give the Red Raiders a 7-0 advantage.
Trinity answered in the second quarter. Quarterback Zane Johnson connected with Jason Hagan for a 35-yard touchdown before Johnson scored on a one-yard run later in the period, sending Baylor to the locker room trailing 14-7.
Then came the third quarter.
And then came Georges.
The senior running back scored from 15 yards out with 10:04 remaining in the quarter to pull Baylor within 14-13. Less than three minutes later, Georges broke free for a 75-yard touchdown, putting the Red Raiders back in front.
He wasn't finished.
With 1:46 remaining in the third, Georges struck again, this time racing 59 yards for another touchdown. Baylor converted the two-point attempt and suddenly held a 28-14 advantage after scoring 21 unanswered points in the quarter.
Georges added his fifth touchdown of the night on a 14-yard run with 7:06 remaining in the fourth quarter, extending Baylor's lead to 35-14.
Trinity continued to battle and scored twice in the closing minutes, but the Red Raiders had done enough to secure a 35-27 road victory and improve to 4-0 on the season.
Georges finished with 315 yards on 26 carries, averaging more than 12 yards per attempt while accounting for all five Baylor touchdowns. His longest runs went for 75 and 59 yards.
The performance came one week after Georges rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns in Baylor's 51-33 victory over Rabun Gap. The reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year entered Friday's game with seven rushing touchdowns through Baylor's first three games.
Quarterback Keegan Croucher added an efficient night through the air, completing 9 of 14 passes for 148 yards. Baylor finished with 452 yards of total offense on just 47 plays, an average of 9.6 yards per play.
While Trinity found success through the air, Baylor's defense made the Shamrocks one-dimensional. Trinity quarterback Zane Johnson completed 24 of 43 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns, but the Red Raiders limited Trinity to only 56 rushing yards on 30 attempts, an average of 1.9 yards per carry.
The victory was especially impressive considering the opponent and setting. Trinity entered the game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Kentucky's Class 6A after defeating Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller 31-14 the previous week.
But on Friday night in Louisville, Baylor answered its first halftime deficit of the season with a dominant third quarter and another explosive performance from its senior running back.
Baylor 35, Trinity 27.
The Red Raiders are 4-0.
