Baylor Soccer opened region play in winning fashion Tuesday night, earning a 1-0 victory over Knoxville Catholic at home and keeping its unbeaten start to the season intact.
The Red Raiders struck early, with Ayanna Hamler finding the back of the net in the 10th minute off a pass from Adri Carey. The goal gave Baylor a 1-0 advantage that it carried into halftime.
Baylor continued to create opportunities throughout the second half but was unable to add to its lead. The Red Raider defense made sure the one goal was enough, turning in another strong performance and limiting Knoxville Catholic's scoring chances to preserve the shutout.
"I thought we defended very well again and limited their chances," Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said. "It was a great start to region play, and now we have to recover and go again against a good CCS team on Thursday."
MacKenzie Douglas, Harley Elam, Brylee Faulkner, Charlotte Hoss, Macey Conrad and Reese Rowlett were among Baylor's standouts in the victory.
The win moves Baylor to 6-0-1 overall and 1-0 in region play as the Red Raiders continue an impressive start to the season.
Baylor returns to action Thursday against Chattanooga Christian School for another region matchup.
