Baylor Soccer Shuts Out the Field in Southern Coast Cup Championship Run

Baylor Soccer delivered a complete performance on and off the field this weekend, traveling to Foley, Alabama and emerging as co-champions of the Bay La Launch Division at the Southern Coast Cup High School Soccer Tournament, which featured more than 110 teams from across the region.

The Red Raiders were dominant from start to finish, posting three shutout victories while showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive discipline throughout the weekend.

Baylor opened play Friday night with a 1-0 win over Mustang High School (OK). The lone goal came in the 24th minute when Liam Guay found the back of the net off an assist from Preston Munroe, and the Baylor defense made it stand the rest of the way.

On Saturday morning, Baylor returned to the pitch against Rome High School (GA) and controlled the match early. Tyler Coleman got things started in the 5th minute off a Liam Guay assist, and Guay added a goal of his own in the 25th minute on a free kick to give Baylor a 2-0 halftime lead. The Red Raiders continued to press in the second half, as Alberth Valcarcel scored in the 51st minute off an Owen Bible pass, and Owen Bible capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 55th minute to secure a 4-0 victory.

In the final match of the weekend, Baylor put together its most complete offensive performance, defeating Fort Payne High School (AL) 6-0. Alberth Valcarcel opened the scoring in the 16th minute off an assist from Owen Bible, followed by goals from Phin Ellison, Correll Davis on a free kick, Noah Chawky off a corner from Petar Radoman, and Tyler Coleman just before halftime. Chawky added his second goal early in the second half to finish the scoring and complete the dominant win.

While the offense was clicking, Baylor's defensive unit set the tone all weekend by not allowing a single goal across three matches. Goalkeepers Blayden Schwartz and Mathew Ramirez, along with a disciplined back line, anchored a shutout performance that defined the tournament run.

Beyond the results, the weekend was also about growth and connection for the Red Raiders.

"I was most proud that we didn't give up a goal all week," said head coach Curtis Blair. "But our biggest goal this week was to continue to build relationships with each other. We had a fun weekend just continuing to spend time with each other on and off the field."

Standout performances throughout the weekend included Henry Collins, Hunter McCoy, Hartley Workman, along with the strong play in goal from Schwartz and Ramirez.

Baylor finished the tournament 3-0, improving to 8-1-1 on the season, and left Foley not only with a championship but with continued momentum as the season progresses.
