Baylor turned in a dominant performance Tuesday night, rolling past Heritage (Ga.) with a 9-0 win in non-region soccer action on campus.
The Red Raiders wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the 3rd minute when Noah Chawky finished off a corner from Alberth Valcarcel. Just two minutes later, Tyler Coleman found the back of the net off a pass from Phin Ellison to make it 2-0.
Baylor kept the pressure on throughout the first half. Owen Bible scored in the 13th minute on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, and Antonio Basan added goals in the 20th and 22nd minutes, finishing a cross from Johnny Von Canon and another from Petar Radoman.
That gave Baylor a 5-0 lead at halftime.
The second half brought more of the same as Forbes Burnette scored in the 56th minute off a cross from Brandon Patton. Burnette then set up Hudson Henry in the 65th minute. Johnny Von Canon added a goal of his own in the 77th minute with a finish from inside the box, and Hartley Workman capped the scoring in the 79th minute off an assist from Valcarcel.
Coach Curtis Blair praised Heritage after the match.
"I have so much respect for Coach Shipley and the Heritage soccer program. They had a bunch of players out sick and injured but never wavered to cancel the game. His guys showed up and played hard for the entire 80 minutes and never quit. He has a lot of great young men that played the game correctly and played with character. It would have been easy for them to not show up or cancel, but the way that Coach Shipley coaches and the way his team played with grit was great to see."
Blayden Schwartz was noted as a standout in goal for Baylor.
