Baylor's start to the Spring Fling was ideal. The finish, however, was not.
University of Alabama signee Brooks Berry began his first state tournament experience with a home run, as the left-handed slugger provided an early lead for the Red Raiders that would not last.
Four errors proved costly for Baylor, which fell 7-5 to Christ Presbyterian Academy Tuesday in the TSSAA Division II-AA state tournament held at Providence Christian Academy in Murfreesboro.
Berry collected three hits and scored just as many runs for the Red Raiders (26-6), who will look to fight back from the losers bracket Wednesday, where they will face Lipscomb Academy at 11 a.m. ET at PCA.
Tennessee commit Blake Lundy hit his 11th home run of the season, while Jack Schuman doubled and drove in a run in the defeat. Wells Grisham allowed two earned runs over five innings for Baylor, as the University of Pittsburgh signee allowed eight hits and struck out just as many while working through 91 pitches.
CPA took the lead for good on a solo home run by Crew Chance to lead off the fifth inning.
