Baylor volleyball continued its impressive run Tuesday night, going on the road and sweeping rival GPS in a hard-fought Division II-AAA East Region matchup.
The Red Raiders battled through three competitive sets to earn the 28-26, 25-20, 27-25 victory, improving to 18-1 overall and 4-0 in region play.
The victory also marked Baylor's 12th consecutive win over GPS in the rivalry series.
Freshman Kenzie Johnson delivered in several big moments, finishing with 15 kills and a .520 hitting percentage. With the third set hanging in the balance, Johnson put down three consecutive kills late to help Baylor finish the sweep.
Sophomore Gabby Minton was a force at the net, recording 12 blocks and nine kills, while sophomore Fergie Hammel added 12 kills and two blocks.
Senior setter Milyn Hold directed the Baylor offense with a match-high 49 assists, while senior Rory Oleksik and junior Nina Lail combined for 32 digs defensively.
Baylor had just defeated GPS over the weekend during its undefeated run to the River City Rumble championship, but Tuesday's rematch carried additional importance with a region victory on the line.
The Red Raiders responded to the challenge, winning two sets that went beyond 25 points and coming away with another big road victory.
Baylor will look to keep its momentum rolling after improving to 18-1 on the season.
