Baylor Soccer continued its late-season push Wednesday night, earning a 3-0 shutout victory over GPS in a rivalry matchup played at McCallie School.
Playing in front of a spirited rivalry crowd, the Red Raiders controlled possession for much of the opening half and broke through in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
Baylor created additional opportunities throughout the first 40 minutes but was unable to add to the lead, taking the one-goal advantage into halftime.
The Red Raiders nearly doubled the margin just over a minute into the second half, but the attempt rolled just outside the post.
Baylor continued to apply pressure and eventually found the second goal approximately 20 minutes into the half. Junior Ayanna Hamler delivered a cross to freshman Abby Lewis, who finished the opportunity to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 advantage.
Just minutes later, senior defender Brylee Faulkner added the third goal off a corner kick, putting Baylor firmly in control at 3-0.
The Red Raider defense took care of the rest, keeping GPS off the scoreboard to secure the rivalry shutout.
"I'm really proud of our girls," head coach Curtis Blair said following the win. "I thought we did a great job of keeping possession a lot more than they did. And when we did win it, we kept it and we tried to find our outside forwards. I felt like they had time and space all day."
The victory is Baylor's second straight and improves the Red Raiders to 9-3-1 on the season.
Baylor will have a week before returning to action on Thursday, October 8, when the Red Raiders host Chattanooga Christian School at 7 p.m.
